UNBOUND AT WORSHIP ARTS By Doug Berry, Territorial Contemporary Music Director, THQ MARCH 1-3, 2019 — Having been born into a Salvation Army family I’ve been to my fair share of weekend events. Many of them were tremendously Spirit filled. But the Worship Arts Weekend that UNBOUND recently took part in hits the top of that list. From start to finish and from delegate to participant the event was filled with likemindedness and Jesus centered teaching and worship. We were blessed to provide worship for the weekend as well as engage in in-depth teaching and master classes in “Technology in Worship,” “Arranging for the Band You Have” and “Transitions in Worship.” For the “Tech in Worship” class Felipe Concha discussed various uses of equipment and software such as Ableton, Logic, Garage Band, Prime (from loop community), Main Stage, USB Audio interface and Midi controllers. He also dove into incorporating technology into our worship sets, identifying how to use what we already have to enhance our local worship as well as resource sharing. 12 • USA EAST MUSIC BULLETIN | S P R I N G 2019 For Victor Morales’s workshop, “Arranging for the Band You Have”, he discussed the musical tendencies of worship music today and how to adapt this music to whatever band format might be available at the delegate’s corps. They tried to understand the general role of each instrument in a worship band. As part of his practical approach, specific band formats were discussed as well as key elements to gain a good band sound no matter how big or small your group is. And finally in “Transitions in Worship”, Doug Berry talked about ways to avoid those awkward silences between songs or items in the program...OR...how to boldly embrace them! “Transitions don’t need to be fancy, they just need to be prayerfully planned and anticipated.” There was impactful worship all weekend. We believe lives were changed and God was honored. Can’t wait for the next one!! ■ W W W. M U S I C . S A CO N N E C T S . O R G
