First trimester abortions passed in Uruguay

Recently, Uruguay has allowed first trimester of pregnancy. The president has no intentions of vetoing the bill, which will make it a law in the beginning of November. Other small countries have also legalized abortion including communist led Cuba and Guyana. The legislation requires a woman to explain her desire to have an abortion to a panel of at least three people, including a gynecologist, social worker and mental health professional, who must discuss abortion-related health risks and alternatives including adoption. After meeting with the panel, a woman must then reflect for five days before finally opting to have an abortion.
Montevideo is a vibrant city of contrasts that combines an international port and economic center for the whole country with a seaside resort consisting of sandy streets and pine forests. In between these contrasting eastern and western ends of the city is the financial heart of the country and the well-to-do residential areas facing the coast. The capital, which was founded in 1726, contains much of its original colonial Spanish and Italian architecture.
