The President pushes for legalization on Marijuana in 2012
In June of 2012, the president of Uruguay wanted to legalize marijuana. His main reason is to take drug trafficking out of Uruguay, and to make the public safer. If they do legalize marijuana, then they would be the first republic to legalize the drug.
Uruguay Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage
The country legalized it on April 10, 2013. The senate voted a 23-8, and the house voted 71-21. The president did not make this law, the lawmakers of the government made the law and the president backed the law.
