with good core values, and I think that comes across to them.
UE: How do you feel about people giving you titles such as the King of Arizona's Hip Hop scene, or anything else proclaiming you as well....the top artist here in the valley?
TH: Its flattering...but at the same time, I'm light years away from where I want to be. So I just use it as motivation to keep wanting to hear that from the masses...to hear that from people in Texas...to hear I'm the King of the Southwest. Its something that I don't put much value in because it doesn't mean anything unless you're impacting people in a positive way. And that's all I want to do with music ultimately. So as long as I'm getting that from the people...that I'm impacting them in a positive way, then I'm good all across the board.
UE: So, aside from music, I know you've done other things around the valley to spread awareness to issues that we've had, such as your song regarding Jhessye Shockley. You just recently participated in a Christmas toy drive for the community...Is it important for you to do these kind of events...Is that something that you want people to definitely know about Trap House, that you're not seen as just a “rapper”?
TH: Its definitely important to me. I feel like as an artist I have a responsibility to use my voice and influence as a tool to reach people in a positive way. And sometimes that may include shining light on things that may be in the dark for some...or people don't know about. But because I know, I feel like I am responsible to tell others about it, and make them aware about things going on around them.
UE: When you did the song for Jhessye, and you were being interviewed by the media...there was a ton of praise to you for speaking up. Did you see or notice any backlash from it ...anything that stood out to you?
TH: Um....there were a couple...rappers, that felt for whatever reason I had an ulterior motive for doing what I did. But in all truth, I didn't even plan on putting the record out. It was just me venting on top of a record that I happened to email to John Blaze to see what he thought of it and he put it out. The very next day I had people from the news calling me and setting up meetings. It was definitely overwhelming in the fact that all I really wanted to do was speak on something that was bothering me.
UE: So....2014. What are you doing LOL? What do you have planned?
TH: I'm going to drop a few mixtapes and ultimately drop an album. I've developed a group of artists under the umbrella called The Black Family. Which I'll be heavily focused on, helping them get off the ground. My next mixtape that will be dropping first quarter is called “Gods Will”. There will be a project called “The Black Family” that will be dropping shortly behind that. We are in the recording process right now.
