"IF YOU CAN GET TO ME, IT'S BECAUSE YOU'RE RIGHT THERE. I'M VERY PROTECTIVE OF WHO I LET IN THAT BUBBLE. I DON'T LET A LOT OF PEOPLE GET THAT CLODE"
t’s crazy that I’ve only known of Jenn and her movement for a couple months now. That’s just how infectious she is with what she’s putting together in the world of theatre and the stage. Just before Christmas, she was putting on her widely popular stage play, In My Mind. The one thing to be said about Cleveland is this city may not support all the time, but when it’s something good, they come out in droves. That really was the case for In My Mind. It really was because of this that I learned of Jenn and the power moves she had been making.
For many, the modern-day stage play is nothing new. Throughout the years, we’ve all seen many. We think back to the infamous commercials for sets like “Mama I Want to Sing”, and the world-renowned Shelly Garrett’s “Beauty Shop” from years ago, and it becomes clear that this type of entertainment has been around for a long time.
I
"I WAS LITERALLY SHAKING BECAUSE I KNEW IT WAS CRAZY. I KNEW IT WAS NOTHING BUT GOD!"
Yet, a lot has changed over the years. People have become more uninhibited in what they can and are willing to do in terms of overall production, and the means they go to for promoting their sets. We’re seeing an influx of individuals who are now pushing to become playwrights, and ultimately take their shows on the road. Here in Cleveland alone, there are a handful of highly talented playwrights who are dominating the industry and taking things to the next level. We’re thrilled to say Jenn Williams is one of those.
Through this opportunity, we’ve come to identify her more as a dramatist because of the types of stories she’s telling in her plays. You see scenarios that so many in the world are going through, but what’s most-freeing about it all is these are things that she’s also experienced at one point or another in her life.
