Urban Grandstand Digital Vol 2, Issue 7 [Diamond P.] | Page 32

Chanté Moore: He’s a really amazing writer, and an amazing guy. His voice is just so beautiful. All the guys, they don’t sound like anybody else.

U.G. Digital Mag: My favorite changes by the day, and right now it’s "Thank You" with June’s Diary. How did the song come about?

Chanté Moore: Well gosh, I’ve known Frank Gatson for the past twenty years, and he’s their troubadour, he’s the one tooting their horn. It’s great how much he believes in them. He and I worked together on a production in Las Vegas called Jubilee, and Crystal and I were in Jubilee together. She’s such an amazing talent. She and I got to know each other, and she’s such a great singer, and a really sweet girl. I found out she was in June’s Diary from there. I thought that was super cool, and in doing this song, we initially worked with Crystal, but then I felt like there was room for everyone. It worked out really well.

U.G. Digital Mag: It’s really dope. Probably the same way I drove people crazy playing "Real One". I’m hitting this mid-life crisis where everything in my car has to bump (laughing), & this does.

Chanté Moore: Yea, I like it too.

U.G. Digital Mag: Now you also connected with Felly the Voice, and D. Bryant. I don’t so much question your choice of artists to work with, but how did you select what we would be on this EP, given there are so few songs and I would imagine you have lots.

with how we present ourselves to the world. That’s the biggest change. Going from getting a letter from someone out of the country, and now I get a text message, or a picture of someone. It’s like wow, they reach you so quickly, but it’s amazing to see their faces and get messages from them so quickly.

U.G. Digital Mag: I agree. Things, as you said, have changed so much, but you’ve grown with it. Artists are truly bossing up now, more than ever. There’s so much you’re doing with your career that keeps you in the know. It speaks to your growth, and everything is fresh.

Chanté Moore: I understand, and I hope people get it. It’s really about taking part in your whole life. My mother used to say if you wait for someone to do it, you’ll be waiting (laughing).

U.G. Digital Mag: How does everyone keep up with you online?

Chanté Moore: The Youtube channel, where I’ll start doing some things very soon. Right now, the album is on iTunes, Spotify, and everywhere digitally. We’re going to be brave and skip right over to the digital age.

U.G. Digital Mag: You were so awesome at Essence festival last year. I appreciate you for today, for your artistry, and just for being you. When you consider your favorite artists and how you expect them to be, you were so down to earth and what people would expect. I appreciate that because all artists don’t turn out that way.

songs and I would imagine you have lots.

Chanté Moore: We were being very secretive and quiet. We didn’t tell the guys they were singing with me. We just told them we were writing some music and duets. We needed a male part here and there, and so on. With this, it was cool. We didn’t really tell them what we were doing. When we surprised them, they were all excited. It was pretty cool.

U.G. Digital Mag: What’s the timeline for the remaining EPS?

Chanté Moore: Basically once each quarter. The last may come a little faster, but yep, each quarter.

U.G. Digital Mag: I love getting the new music.

Chanté Moore: I’m glad. Me too.

U.G. Digital Mag: I’m always blown away at how much you’ve done in the industry. It’s literally been thirty years. Where does that sit in your mind?

Chanté Moore: It doesn’t (laughing). I really love music, and making music. I never tire of that. I’ve been in a place sometimes where I think the industry would be fine without me (laughing). The business of music has changed so much, and I wasn’t sure I could keep up. It’s like, I have to do what? There’s so much I had to learn with things like social media. It was gradual, and I really started to get it. The biggest lesson I got is we’re in control with how we present ourselves to the world. That’s the biggest change. Going from getting a letter from someone out of the country, and now I get a text message, or a picture of someone. It’s like wow, they reach you so quickly, but it’s amazing to see their faces and get messages from them so quickly.
