I know you see how black media has treated our celebrities, and how we get information. It speaks to the difficulties in building genuine relationships with managers and publicists and artists. I felt like I wanted to make a difference. What were your goals coming in?
Diamond P.: Don’t take this the wrong way, and I’ll explain why I say this. I don’t have goals. I don’t set goals, and the reason is that I think outside the box. If you think about it, and ask a person their goals, they’ll say what they want to do in 5 or 10 years. Once they say that, it’s where they stop. I don’t set goals because there’s no limit to what I do. If you ask me what I want to do, it’s numerous things I want to do. Like right now, people will say I’m all over the place. If you know what you’re doing and you’re business-minded, you can put things in perspective. If I do radio, I’m a rapper, I’m doing television, and movies, all of them fit together. You just have to know how to make them stick. It’s not hard. I’m a rapper, and a personality, common sense. Play your own music. You can get your music out there. You may need a little help. Bottom line is you’re in a place where a lot of people need to get, and that is having radio play. You want to be on TV. All of that plays in the same. If I’m in a sitcom, I can do the music for the show.
and people seeing my vision. It's been good having people who want to see me get to where I need to be. In the end, I don’t just do it for them. I do it for everyone I personally deal with. I’m fighting the battle for people who believe in me. I feel like right now, it’s my time.
U.G. Digital Mag: I agree. Given the state of the industry where people don’t want to work together and see each other win, I think women could do something monumental. I would love to see it, but it’s definitely your time. I look up to so many artists, new or here for years, it doesn’t matter. I do this for the love of it, and I love talking to people like you. You inspire so many people, including myself. You’re winning already, but I want you to win even more. I saw your press kit, and I was so hyped for this opportunity. So much has gone in a negative way in music, and you’re changing that.
Diamond P.: I appreciate it. It’s a blessing for you to say it, and a blessing for me to hear it. I have people who say I’ve made it, but in my heart, I don’t feel I have. I don’t feel like I’ve done enough. I’m doing it, and won’t take away from what I’ve done, however, I know there’s more to come. Sometimes I feel like I got some people that’s slick, trying to hold me back, but I’m just quiet right now. I’m very observant. I let things play out, but continue to do what I do.
You have to be able to know how to put everything in perspective. It’s not a thing of having goals. I just want to succeed to exceed.
U.G. Digital Mag: I love that, and it makes sense. You set a goal, and when you reach it, what happens after that?
Diamond P.: My point exactly. There’s no limit to what I can do. I may not want to do it, but that’s the difference. There’s a difference between can’t and won’t do. I’ll never say what I can’t do. I just will tell you I don’t want to do it.
U.G. Digital Mag: I love it. Talk about this other quote where you say you cause distractions and not problems.
Diamond P.: That came about in an interview. The guy just could not interview me. I guess I was a distraction to him. I was messing around with him, but I guess I made him nervous. I just made the hashtag, and it was only a joke. But it’s true. I don’t cause problems, but I will cause a distractions. I think as far as dealing with females, I have an issue with how devious they are, and them not wanting to see other females win. So it’s like, since you want to come at me, I’m not causing problems, but I will cause a distraction. That’s basically what it was.
U.G. Digital Mag: What’s been the best thing about your journey?
Diamond P.: Just having people believe in me, and people seeing my vision. It’
