One listen to his latest single “Crush”, and it’s clear that Alexander Rome is not your ordinary. Using music as a refuge throughout his childhood, it was only nature that he would ultimately pursue a career in music and entertainment. Although he’s been working on an undergraduate degree in St. Louis, this Pittsburgh native still found time to put together a debut album. ‘Built in a day’ dropped June 2012, and has built quite a buzz for him. Judging by the response of fans, he’s definitely an R&B phenomenon on the rise. Now, as he works diligently on crafting his second LP, he’s taken a few moments to talk with Urban Grandstand about his journey into music, what’s missing in R&B, and how he’s using that to deliver in his own material.
Urban Grandstand: I really want to thank you, first of all, for taking the time to sit down and talk.
Rome Alexander: It’s no problem at all.
Urban Grandstand: So talk to me about how you got started with recording, and how you ultimately began to pursue a career in music?
Rome Alexander: I’ve always loved music since I was a little kid taking piano lessons. I guess that over the last three or four years, I started making my own stuff. I’ve always done my thing on the piano and doing my own thing, but I started learning to record. I’ve been getting better every year. With experience I’ve gotten better, and I’m just trying to see where I can take it.
