Local Codes
And Policies
Each city or municipality will have different departments that create and monitor policies
with regard to urban agriculture. Many local governments are supportive of urban
agriculture endeavors while others may be more apprehensive of growing food in the urban
setting. It is important to discover what department/s in your local government is in charge
of these codes and ordinances. For example, in the city of Long Beach, the Office of
Sustainability provides resources and information about implementing edible landscapes.
