m u si c Mass in Time Of War Sunday, May 18, 6 p.m. by DR. DAVID CHILDS, Director of Music Ministries Join us in our Sanctuary on Sunday evening, May 18, at 6 p.m. to hear one of the greatest Classical masses ever written. Our Chancel Choir with professional orchestra will perform ‘Mass in Time of War’ by Franz Joseph Haydn, with recognized soloists Haley Sicking, Dianna Grabowski, Alex Bumpass, and Robert Ward. Composed at Eisenstadt in 1796, the writing of this great mass coincided with a very troubled period in Austria, which was being mobilized into four years of European war following the French Revolution. Fearing invasion from the enemy, Haydn included distinct musical references to battle in the inspired Benedictus and Agnus Dei movements. The musical language of Haydn is mesmerizing and astounding, however, it takes on an unsettled feeling, leading some scholars to believe it has an anti-war sentiment to it. Enjoy the power and magic of this incredible work and treat yourself to an unforgettable evening of music. The performance is free and open to all. Don’t miss it!
