Guide to Where Rock Collecting is Allowed in the Brainerd Lakes Area
Before heading out on a rock collecting adventure , it is important to first make sure you are allowed to collect rocks from the site you will be visiting . Rock collecting is not allowed in the state parks and state scientific and natural areas .
It is , however , typically allowed on privately-owned land with permission from the landowner , and on countyowned public land that is not blocked off with no trespassing signs .
About the Cuyuna Iron Range
The Cuyuna Iron Range is a former North American iron-mining district were manganese-rich iron ores used to harden steel were mined between 1907 and the 1960s . The last reported shipment of iron ore left the Cuyuna Range in 1982 , and the land sat vacant until 1993 when local and state representatives worked to turn the area into The Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area .
