“ There are some years when it ’ s still too cold in May . I don ’ t put people on kayaks and paddleboards if the water is too uncomfortably cold ,” said Simons .
And for those who are more interested in self-contained waterparks , The Brainerd Lakes region has plenty of those too .
The Arrowwood Lodge at Brainerd Lakes is home to the Paul Bunyan Waterpark , which opened for business in 2012 .
