Big Axe offers a rib and walleye dinner on the weekends , but is best known for appetizers that go with their beer and burgers . 22 Northmen Brewery and Carlos Creek Winery are located in the same building in Alexandria . Both offer live music and food including pizza and food truck menus . The head brewer at 22 Northmen Brewery , Keith Hefley , has been on an 18-year journey through the midwest beer scene , beginning with his childhood on a corn and wheat farm in Southeast Colorado .
Hefley said , “ I ’ ve been moving grain my whole life .” While in Colorado , he experienced the amazing craft brewing scene . He refers to this time in his life as his “ Undergraduate Beer Degree .” He worked at breweries in Colorado , Missouri , and Minnesota before he found his calling at 22 Northern .
