In Crosslake , 14 Lakes Craft Brewing Company is named after the 14 interconnected lakes of the Whitefish Chain of Lakes . 14 Lakes owners Cindy and Steve Guttormson were drawn to the idea of opening a brewery when a building they owned became vacant in 2015 . Steve had noticed all the breweries opening in the Brainerd area and felt it was a perfect opportunity to start a brewery . The taproom is family-friendly with board games and cards . On warm summer evenings , you can play games on the patio or just relax and take in the surrounding beauty . Visitors often bring their favorite four-legged friends to socialize , too . Block North Brew Pub in Aitkin offers a menu that includes giant Bavarian pretzels , walleye cakes , shrimp and grits , Cajun andouille ( spicy pork sausage ) pasta , and panko-crusted brie cheese . Head chef and owner Peter Lowe said , “ When you start drinking in your day , our pub is a good place to start because you can start early enough in the day and have some appetizers and some substance in your stomach and move on from there because there are so many great places in the area .
