Granted these changes were necessary if the band wanted to achieve global domination, and it is quite clear to see that it's not just in the aesthetics that Turners changed. If you listen to the first album there's songs about the "coppers" and mentions of things such as "dandelion and burdock" These colloquialisms which are very much British allowed for the band to relate to its British fans however when they went across the pond to The US people didn't get it. Hence why on the new album there is next to no British colloquialisms and the accent of Turners is now where near as thick.

These changes have resulted in last year being the biggest of their career with their fifth studio album "AM" going to number one globally, however you feel for the diehard fans who have supported them from the start and should maybe feel a little bit aggrieved that the Monkeys have looked for Global success rather than stay loyal to their original fan base. However cannot fault them for finally cracking the US and emerging triumphant, and having Josh Homme as a mate didn't hurt either!
