Artist of the Month

Hey everyone, its me, Carissa-Marie!

Journey with me to sunny California where we sit down and converse with Hip-Hoptress, Pocahontas.

Carissa: So, is Pocahontas your real name?

Poca: Ha. No. I born as Asha Ramnarine.

Carissa: Ok, and where are you originally from?

Poca: Well, I grew up in Trenton NJ and moved to Los Angeles, Ca as a young teen.

Carissa: Cool, so a lil East and West coast flava up in there. How long have you been in the game?

Poca: I been doing it since like 11. So for a while now.

Carissa: INdeed. But how did you get started? Especially at such a young age.

Poca: . I started off when I lived in Trenton, NJ freestyling and battling in school at lunch and after school, on the back of the bus and things. Not to many chicks to battle so I found myself being tested by many dudes in battles. That was bootcamp <giggles> As I got a little older, freestyles and battles transcended to recording at the local homies closet studio booths, like most of us young hungry aspiring artists.

Carissa: Wow, thats great. So then you just progressed from there?

Poca: Yep. I did a couple of albums with my crew "Spiritual Thugs" (Young Bo, Chilly Mac, Jag Bomb). Then I came out with my debut solo album Dear Diary.

Carissa; Now I know you did some woth with some big names in Hip-Hop, right?

Poca: Yeah. Worked with The Millers (No Limit) a little bit.

Carissa: No Limit. UUUhh. <giggles> What other things have you been involved in?

Poca: Well, I got a couple of movie deals with Universal Killer Tracks, Musicbox/Ole. Got placed on a few TV programs. And I performed a bunch of venues.
