100 INNOVATIONS AND CAPABILITIES

SICONA - UNSW RESEARCH COLLABORATION

UNSW RESEARCH
Lithium-ion batteries are ubiquitous when it comes to powering portable devices , and their use will only grow as batterypowered electric vehicles and battery energy storage systems expand into the market . The desire to make better lithium-ion batteries in terms of safety , performance and lifetimes requires better materials . Sicona is working on a suite of materials and processes to produce novel materials for this aspect and is being supported by UNSW researchers .
> Scale up of production processes .
> Pilot plant construction and initiation .
> Investigations into new materials and processing routes .
> Commercial interactions .
At UNSW , key research infrastructure is being used to address research and development questions for the new materials under investigation .
Sicona has set up pilot plant facilities and is raising capital and scaling up its technology . It is looking for future improvements and technological advancements in collaboration with other partners like UNSW . • 27
