BUSINESS REG LAB
UNSW RESEARCH
Converting evidence-based government policy into effective regulation is difficult for both regulators and the regulated . Teams that implement new policies are unlikely to have an appropriate toolkit to work as efficiently as is possible . There are a range of “ do something ” calls for the regulation of the platform or big tech sector . There is also the conflicting context of the need for innovation in the digital economy .
Reg Lab is designed to provide an environment which will create a new research stream to analyse incremental regulatory improvement in a deregulatory environment . It will do this by providing a set of domain experts and the combination of process improvement techniques and novel problem identification in a disruptive approach . It will , at its heart , adopt regulatory co-design principles .
Reg Lab ’ s core partner is Google . The team has also worked with Meta and the Commonwealth Government in this area . Reg Lab is at the proof of concept stage and is looking for additional partners in the big tech space .
