Challenge
Stigma is one of the biggest barriers to quality health care. To avoid experiencing stigma, people might wait longer to get tested, be cautious about disclosing information or not go ahead with treatments. This means that stigma can result in poorer health outcomes for physical and mental health for many people.
Solution
This project has provided essential data to monitor the experience of stigma which community groups and health agencies can use to agitate for greater efforts to reduce stigma. The project has developed world-leading approaches to stigma-reducing interventions in healthcare. In addition, the project has provided key workforce development activities – a short course, multi-sectoral conference, webinar series and a global network to amplify stigma reduction research, advocacy and action.
