Disney Movies That Grow Up With You

Almost everyone grows up watching Disney movies, and we all have our favorites. These are the movies that are still amazing even after you’ve grown up. And as you wait for the release of Finding Dory on June 17, here are some Disney classics to binge watch while you wait. Whether you’re watching these for the hundredth or first time, they’re sure to not disappoint!

This one is pretty obvious. When Finding Dory was announced in 2013, people went crazy and that’s because of how much they loved the original film. People want to see these characters again. Even Ellen DeGeneres, the voice of Dory, was begging for a sequel. Finding Nemo is both hysterical and emotional, teaching lessons about family that both kids and adults need to hear. It’s the perfect blend of humor and heart that makes people beg for more even 13 years after its initial release.

When The Lion King first came out in 1994, audiences went crazy. It’s still known as one of Disney’s biggest hits. However, in recent years I’ve noticed that a lot of people now find this movie to be really overrated. While I can understand why people might feel that way, it’s important to remember that there are reasons behind its success. The music is fantastic, the animation is breathtaking, and the characters are easy to love. If you’ve somehow never seen this movie (and haven’t had any spoilers), I dare you to watch it and not laugh, cry and fall in love.

This one is a personal favorite and a Disney movie that I think is meant more for adults than it is for kids. The original novel by Victor Hugo isn’t really something you would use as inspiration for a family feature. Even with Disney’s attempt to shed some light on the story, The Hunchback of Notre Dame is still exceptionally dark. While I don’t think that everything that kids watch needs to be cheery and happy all of the time, there are themes in Hunchback that only adults will understand. Being able to understand those themes makes the movie so much better.
