Union County War Memorial is one of the most revered treasures in Union County . It holds a special place in the hearts of military persons and their family members , and also in the hearts of those who enjoying their life as an American citizen .
The dedication of the War Memorial took place on November 11 , 1995 , more than a quarter of a century back .
The creation of the memorial began with Roy Hamby , a man who had a long career in

the military , then later spent more than two decades assisting military men and women , plus their families .
During that time , Hamby organized a Memorial Day program , which lead to the inspiration that became the War Memorial .
“ Veterans needed a place where they could celebrate Memorial Day instead of being in the middle of the street in front of the old courthouse . We wanted a War Memorial ,” said Hamby . The magnificent War Memorial is breathtaking . The layout includes 13 monuments depicting the wars of the United States which directly involved Union County , which was formed in 1832 .
The monuments circle a huge slab more than nine feet tall with an eagle at the top .
