1 . Brasstown Bald is the highest natural point in the state of Georgia with a summit elevation of 4,784 feet above sea level . Cherokee people call it Enotah . The road to the top of the mountain is partly in Union County . State Route 180 Spur , a 2.6-mile route that connects SR 180 . 2 . Georgia Mountain Research and Education Center 415 acres of orchards , test plots , pasture land , specimen and preservation gardens , historic sites and forests . Used by University of Georgia faculty to conduct ongoing research and education projects . Hwy . 129 South of Blairsville . 3 . Meeks Park is the envy of parks in Northeast Georgia . Lighted baseball and softball fields , swimming pool , tennis courts , pavilions , play ground , gazebos , trails , Butternut Creek , Nottely River , picnic areas , adult exercise area . Host for festivals and events . Hwy . 515 west of Blairsville about a mile . 4 . Lake Winfield Scott offers bass , bream and trout . The lake is open to fishing year round . A U . S . Forest Service campground at the lake and there is a place to swim . 5 . Lake Nottely 4,180 acres , 106 miles of shoreline with boating , fishing and other activities . Two marinas and several public boat ramps . Formed in 1942 by the damming of the Nottely River . The dam is 184 feet high and stretches 2,300 feet across the Nottely River . Nearly 70 % of the shoreline under the USFS and undeveloped . 6 . Vogel State Park is a 233-acre state park located at the base of Blood Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest . The park features streams , hiking trails , waterfall , Lake Trahlyta and a wide assortment of plants and animals . Campsites , rental cottages , mini-golf , playground , general store , swimming , pedal-boats , fishing and other activities . 11 miles south of Blairsville on US 129 . 7 . Union County Community Center Chamber of Commerce & Welcome Center and Union County Development Authority ’ s offices . Open to the public , it is available for banquets , meetings , conferences , weddings , reunions and receptions . 8 . Butternut Creek Golf Course features rolling valley holes and challenging slopes with mountain views from all 18 holes . Butternut Creek plays to a modest 6,500 + yards , water comes into play on 13 holes . Mounds , undulating greens and elevation changes are found throughout the course . 9 . Cooper Creek Scenic Area 1,240-acre area ranges between 2,000 and 2,500 feet in elevation , surrounded by more than 34,000 acres of the Cooper Creek Water Management Area and the slightly larger , overlapping Cooper Creek Wildlife Management Area . 10 . Helton Creek Falls Upper and Lower falls , trail less than a half mile long . Spectacular 100 foot drop of the upper falls . 11 miles south of Blairsville on US 19 / 129 . 11 . Old Courthouse museum , community events . 12 . Union County Courthouse is home to many government offices .
