"I’m a guy and I’ve been sexually abused."
Sexual abuse can happen to anyone, no matter your age, your sexual orientation, or your gender identity.
Women and girls aren’t the only victims of sexual abuse; many men and boys are also victims. In the U.S., over 10% of sexual assault victims are male. Researchers have found that 1 in 6 men have experienced abusive sexual experiences before age 18. And they feel this is a low estimate because it doesn't include noncontact experiences which can also have lasting negative effects.
There are many reasons that keep male survivors from reporting their assault or getting help, like being unable to physically fight off the attacker or feelings of guilt. Understand that no matter what struggles you’re dealing with, it is important to get help as part of your recovery, regardless of gender.
