Understanding Screen Addiction | Page 32

A Spiritual Perspective

God asks us to love Him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. He also tells us to love our neighbor as our self. He says no other things are greater than these. (Mark 12:29-31)

How can we accomplish this?

It’s not by checking out of life and constantly looking at a screen. In order to love someone, you have to know them, right? So you can accomplish these things by first knowing God. To get to know God and draw closer to Him: study God’s Word, pray and talk to Him, worship Him and praise Him.

To love your neighbor, you also have to get to know them. When we have our heads down, buried in a game or messaging on social media, we are not connecting with our neighbors and the people around us.

Obviously, technology can be really great, but as with anything else, we must use self-control. Part of using self-control is to say no to things in excess.

You don’t have to do this alone. God says where we are weak, He is strong. (2 Corinthians 12:8-10). He says He will help us in our times of trouble and temptation (I Corinthians 10:13).

Ask God to help you to have self-control. Ask Him to help you to limit your screen time and put Him first in your life. Ask Him to be the Lord of your life so that you can love Him will all of your heart, soul, mind and strength.
