CENTRE FOR SIMULATIONin Health and Care . Spanning three buildings across campus , the simulation facilities in our centre are designed to represent current clinical equipment and healthcare environments . Students learn by applying their classroom knowledge to the practical settings they ’ ll step into on placement and once they graduate . Simulation facilities include a hospital ward , operating theatre with a Human Patient Simulator , care home area and imaging suite .
BSc ( Hons ) Paramedic Science
What ’ s this course about ?
On this HCPC-accredited course , you ’ ll gain all the skills and experience you need to graduate and apply to become a HCPC-registered paramedic . You ’ ll develop skills working on medical manikins during simulated scenarios , in one of the nation ’ s leading healthcare teaching environments , the Centre for Simulation in Health and Care . You ’ ll also gain more than 1,500 hours of experience on placement with real paramedic teams and in clinical settings . Alongside excellent teaching , you ’ ll benefit from the support of a personal mentor within the Ambulance Service .
BSc ( Hons ) Pharmacology
What ’ s this course about ?
In our high-tech labs , you ’ ll use specialist equipment to study how drugs – such as painkillers , antibiotics , and chemotherapy agents – alter the body . You ’ ll study alongside researchers doing important work to understand how diseases such as cancer , asthma and Alzheimer ’ s can be treated . As well as exploring the latest techniques for diagnosing and treating diseases , you ’ ll investigate how cells communicate with each other , and why people ’ s bodies respond differently to the same drugs .

120 – 128 points to include 32 points from an A level in a single Science subject , or equivalent .
Applicants must be 18 or over when the course starts . Applicants with a full , category B ( car ) driving licence should have no more than three penalty points .
Applicants will be required to take an admissions test .
All shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview in support of their application .
You ’ ll also look at how new medicines are developed , tested and launched .

The Department of Health requires all new Exposure Prone Procedures ( EPP ) workers , including students , are tested for HIV , Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C . The consent , test and managed process of results will be carried out by our Occupational Health Department .

What ’ s this course about ?
Gain insight into the pharmaceutical advances of the future and learn to use modern drug technology . Practise using the skills and knowledge you learn under supervision from GPhCregistered pharmacists on the course and out in the field . From dispensing to undertaking medical history – you can hone your abilities in a fully-stocked model pharmacy and in simulated consultation and hospital spaces , as well as gaining experience with real patients on placements . Supported by experts with many years of social work experience , you ’ ll practise home visit scenarios , communication and observational skills , before helping vulnerable people and carers on your placement in the community .

Other qualifications are considered including BTEC Extended Diploma in Applied Science at DDM plus A level Chemistry . For A levels which include a separate science practical component , a pass is desirable and may strengthen an application .
All shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an online values based interview , including situational judgement test , which will be used alongside your application to determine your suitability for this course .

Successfully shortlisted applicants will be invited to a staged , holistic and multidimensional selection day which has been designed in accordance with Social Work England ’ s standards . The assessment day will commence with all shortlisted applicants completing a written task , which is assessed as a pass or fail . In accordance with Social Work England standards , the written element will assess applicants ’ command of English , ability to analyse and present written information , motivation to become a social worker , knowledge of the social work profession and relevant policies and legislation and ICT
