Biomedical scientists play a key role in public health . Dental hygienists and therapists help people maintain good oral health . They provide treatments or procedures such as scaling and polishing , taking dental X-rays , and giving advice on diet or dental hygiene . Dental therapists are also trained to do some of the same work as dentists , from fillings to extractions . This dual role course , accredited by the General Dental Council ( GDC ), gives you the skills required to register as both a dental hygienist and dental therapist with the GDC .
