Business Management and Economics
BA (Hons)
Why study this course?
This course provides you with the theory and practice of management and
economics, making use of case studies and examples and, by offering you the
chance to apply what you have learned, preparing you for a range of careers
in business.
This course provides a broad business curriculum that uses up to date
research and cases to explore themes such as strategy, innovation,
quality and people management. At the same time, by using professional
software tools such as Bloomberg and Stata, you will learn to analyse
and interpret real economic data to become confident in communicating
complex business information to a range of audiences. You can then opt
to enhance your employability skills by taking a placement year between
years two and three of your studies.
The programme will introduce you to techniques for addressing real
world problems and policy-related issues. You will explore the behaviour
of households, businesses and governments from a multidisciplinary
perspective. You will consider issues of social importance, examine real
world phenomena and combine theoretical analysis with an up to date
knowledge of current issues.
What will this mean for my future?
The programme will open up a range of career opportunities in business
and government. You might choose to take up a career as an economist
in the City, with the Government Economic Service, in commerce or
industry, in education or in local government. Your management skills
could lead to a career as a manager in the commercial, public or charitable
sectors or in marketing or sales. You may also choose to study for a
postgraduate degree in either of these subjects.
