COUNSELING AND INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS Degree : Minor Program Type : Term Program Modality : On-ground
Program Description : Students in any baccalaureate program may earn a minor in counseling and interpersonal relations by completing six courses ( 18 credits ). Students may choose an area of concentration or earn a generalist minor .
Minor Courses : Pre-requisite course : PSY 100 . Required courses : PSY 200 ( or SWK 202 or PSY 202 ), PSY 212 , and PSY 321 . Additional Courses : Students may select three courses from one area to complete the minor with a concentration or select any three courses from the approved list to complete the minor with a generalist focus . Concentration in Child and Family : PSY221 , PSY222 , and SWK241 . Concentration in Mental Health : PSY210 , PSY206 , and PSY304 . Concentration in Special Populations : CRJ205 , PSY 437 or SWK203 , and PSY300 . Concentration in Early Entry to Graduate Study *: CNS 501 , CNS 505 , CNS 520 , and CNS 540 . Generalist : Any three courses from the approved list . Additional upper-level psychology electives may be applied to the minor with approval from the program coordinator .
* The Concentration in Early Entry to Graduate Study is available only to students accepted into the Early Entry to the MS in Counseling Program . Course substitutions may be made with the approval of the program coordinator .
Internal / External Transfers : A maximum of six credits may be transferred from another institution . All prerequisites for the chosen courses must be satisfied . To receive credit for courses taken elsewhere , submission of a transcript must be submitted , and the program may request a course syllabus to appropriately evaluate course equivalency . Foundation counseling courses ( PSY 212 and PSY 321 ) may not be transferred into the minor from another institution .
Academic Standards / Grade Requirements : A grade of C or higher is required in each of the courses required for the minor .
Academic Progress , ( Probation ), and Program Dismissal : A student may achieve less than a “ C ” Grade in only two courses for the minor and he / she may repeat these courses only once . If a student , regardless of his / her cumulative grade point average , achieves less than a “ C ” grade on a third course for the minor , or fails to bring all grades up to a “ C ” with one repeat , he / she will be dismissed from the program . Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the program coordinator or the Dean .
