Mindfulness and Positive
This course will provide students with an introduction to the art and science of mindfulness and the emerging field of Positive Psychology . Mindfulness helps foster improvement in quality of life , awareness , satisfying relationships , well-being and increased positivity which are intimately connected to the foundations of Positive Psychology . Students will learn about these fields focused on building upon one ' s strengths , virtues as well as cultivating resilience . This course will cover research , traits , techniques and real-world applications with various tools and approaches . Through scholarly journal articles , text readings , discussions , reflective writing exercises and digital learning tools , students will gain a better understanding of how mindfulness , Positive Psychology , and happiness play a role in one ' s personal and professional contexts .

Health Psychology
Students will study the application of psychological principles to health and wellness . Topics will include illness perception and prevention , health enhancing and health compromising behaviors , the effects of stress on health , patient provider interactions , factors influencing utilization of health services and the management of chronic illness .

Psychology of Special Populations
This course will examine the relationship between diversity and psychological processes of interacting with individuals who are different . Students will examine individual and societal perceptions of cognitive , emotional and physical disabilities as well as perceptions of the elderly . Issues of stereotyping , prejudicial beliefs and discrimination will be examined . The social , political and economic implications of the challenges and strengths of special populations will be examined .
