This course presents the potential for biological damage caused by radiation and how to eliminate or reduce it . Radiation units and quantities are discussed as well as methods of measurement . Dose limits for operators and patients are discussed with emphasis on the ALARA concept . Genetic and somatic effects are described as well as policies and practices to insure safe radiation limits are maintained . Agencies responsible for standards are also discussed .
Continuation of clinical education rotations in general radiography and fluoroscopy occur in this course . Observation and application of the principles and procedures introduced in general radiography and fluoroscopy are on-going throughout the course with opportunities for the student to perform initial competencies in the areas of the body that they have learned in the classroom and laboratory settings .
Continuation of clinical experience rotations give the student the opportunity to gain knowledge and practice in performing the radiographic procedures learned in the classroom and laboratory settings . The student will continue to gain confidence in their skills . The student is required to demonstrate competency in the areas of the body that they have learned in the classroom and laboratory setting . Students participate in clinical education in an affiliate hospital performing procedures in accordance with the clinical competency evaluation system under direct supervision of a staff radiographer . Beginning rotations may occur at the front desk and transportation , as well as general radiography and fluoroscopy areas of the department . This basis of ethics and ethical behavior will be introduced , as well as , solving ethical dilemmas found in the clinical setting . An introduction to legal terminology and concepts will also be presented . Informed consent and proper documentation is presented . Human diversity is addressed with the idea of promoting better understanding of patients and their families in order to provide better patient care .
