Professional Liability : All students enrolled in the Radiation Therapy Program are required to carry Professional Liability Insurance . This policy is arranged by the business office of the University ; the insuring company is ACORD ®, Artex Risk Solutions , Inc . ( CB ) Two Pierce Place Itasca IL 60143-3141 . It has a yearly term under a local agent . Copies of the policy contract are held in the University ’ s Business Office . Sophomore , Junior and Senior , Bachelor of Science / Bachelor of Health Science students are billed accordingly .

Description Respiratory Care is a rewarding and rapidly growing health profession concentrating in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cardiopulmonary abnormalities . A respiratory care professional can practice as a Certified Respiratory Therapist ( CRT ) or as a Registered Respiratory Therapist ( RRT ). Additional coursework can be secured to prepare the therapist to practice in a leadership , education or service capacity . The respiratory care program at Gwynedd Mercy University follows a ‘ three-plus- one ' model and provides a true career ladder allowing for practice at multiple levels . The first three years represent the Associate Degree and the final year , the Bachelor of Health Science Degree ( BHS ). The primary goal of the respiratory care program is to provide the student the knowledge , skills , and professional attitudes and behaviors to practice as a safe , competent , caring , and compassionate health care professional .
Associate of Science Degree in Respiratory Care - The Associate of Science Degree in Respiratory Care is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care ( CoARC ) and is an Entry into Respiratory Care Professional Practice Program . It consists of three years of coursework and is broken down as follows :
First Year The first-year consists of general studies rich in the natural sciences , mathematics , and liberal arts disciplines . It is designed to prepare students for the respiratory care concentration courses taken in the second and third year . Second Year The second-year entails course work in the art and science of respiratory care , coupled with a chemistry course in the Fall and microbiology in the Spring semesters . Respiratory care courses are didactic ( classroom ), laboratory , and clinical in nature . The didactic classes are designed to address the principles and concepts of the particular subject in question . The laboratory is designed for demonstration and practice and provides an environment where the student can first experience the procedures and practices of respiratory care in a controlled and closely supervised manner .
