program . The first two years ( 63 ) credits are taken on the university campus . The final two years of the Radiologic Technology program takes place in a 20-24 month program at a hospital-based Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology ( JRCERT ) approved affiliate School of Radiologic Technology ( or Radiography ). Student must apply and be accepted to one of these affiliate programs . Students are prepared to take the Examination in Radiography Examination offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ( ARRT ) for Professional Registration .
Students enrolled in the Radiologic Technology major must complete all required Gwynedd Mercy courses before beginning the junior year of study at a hospital-based Radiologic Technology Program . The hospital-based ( JRCERT ) affiliate accredited Schools of Radiologic Technology are independent from the University . Students will be advised when application must be submitted to affiliate programs . A list of JRCERT approved affiliate Schools of Radiologic Technology can be found in the Student Handbook . Additional JRCERT accredited programs can be found at www . jrcert . org . Representatives from the hospital-based program will review the applicant ’ s grades and a personal interview will follow . Some affiliates require the student to take the TEAS assessment test . Admission is competitive and the University cannot guarantee that a student will be accepted to an affiliate program
During the 2nd two years of the program in radiologic technology , the student will have didactic , laboratory and clinical education on a full-time , 40 hours a week basis at the affiliate program . All radiologic technology courses will be taught by qualified educators in the field of radiologic technology . Students will participate in didactic and clinical education courses at an affiliate site to which they have applied and been accepted . Students are expected to follow all policies and procedures of the affiliate program while enrolled . All graduating students are eligible to sit for the national American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ( ARRT ) examination in Radiography to become a registered Radiologic Technologist , RT ( R ), a title recognized in all 50 states .
The junior and senior student who is at the affiliate program pays the affiliate ’ s tuition as well as a fee to the University for each year ( found in this catalog under expenses ). The student is responsible for the tuition to the affiliate hospital and any additional costs . The student enrolled in the affiliate radiologic technology program is expected to follow all policies and procedures of that affiliate .
The student is responsible for transportation to and from the School of Radiologic Technology . The student is responsible for registering for Gwynedd Mercy RDS courses that correlate with the affiliate program courses for the Fall , Spring and Summer semesters .
Students can continue to file the FASFA form through the University and receive federal financial aid towards the affiliate program toward tuition . Students who receive tuition assistance from the Veterans Administration ( VA ) should be aware that once they enter the affiliate program , the University will no longer be the liaison for processing VA tuition transactions . It is the student ’ s responsibility to contact the affiliate program to find out if they are a VA participating program prior to applying . The certifying official at a VA participating affiliate will assume the role of processing VA benefits while enrolled in the affiliate program . The student should also contact the VA directly for additional information .
