'migrants' here refers to any displaced person and includes: migrants, refugees, and asylum
seekers. The project is primarily supervised by Dr Mariangela Palladino (Keele University) as
well as Anastasia Valassopoulos (University of Manchester) and Lisa Dikomitis (Keele
University).
ALISHA MATHERS recently completed a first-class Honours Degree in English Literature at
Keele University and received the Claire Coleman Memorial Prize. She is currently an MA
student studying English Literatures at Keele and has recently won a runner-up prize for the
Bob Beattie Postgraduate Student of the Year awards 2018/2019. Her journal article
‘Questioning Authenticity: Testimonials, witness accounts, and fictional migrant narratives’
was published in December 2018 in the Studies in Arts and Humanities (SAH) Journal. She is
also published in The Literary Encyclopedia for her encyclopedia entry on J. M. Coetzee’s The
Childhood of Jesus (2013). Alongside her academic achievements, Alisha is the Postgraduate
Taught student representative for the Athena SWAN committee at Keele and a member of
the organising team for the Keele Humanities and Social Sciences Postgraduate Seminar
Series: Work in Progress. Her research interests are migration, equality, and social justice and
the ways the arts can illuminate and contribute to such debates on policies and the so-called
‘migrant crisis’.
