Under Construction @ Keele 2018 Vol. IV (II) | Page 6

iv Editors’ Note Welcome to the eighth issue of Under Construction. In this issue we have yet another fascinating range of articles to share with you, all original work produced by our postgraduates at Keele University. This issue’s articles range across ethnophilosophy, geo-politics, governance, and poetry. Our first article will broaden our understanding of ‘philosophers’ by making the argument that several thinkers, previously not categorised as philosophers, have given credible contributions to thinking around truth and should be considered as such. Later you will be invited to explore the political climate of the past and present of Hanley (Stoke-on- Trent) through a critical and creative lens, using psychogeography and geopolitics. The effectiveness of 'democratic innovations' in local participatory governance of post-apartheid South Africa is also explored such as the Ward Committee system and the Integrated Development Planning process. Our final article of this issue will explore the conflicts and connections of confessional poetry and narcissism. We think you will agree these are an interesting range and reflect some of the fresh and varied research from Keele’s postgraduate community. Special thanks go to the Editor-in-Chief Glenn Price, who took the role for this issue. Also, thanks to Rodrigo Porto Carreiro Neves as Humanities Editor, and Thomas Evans as Publicist & Designer for their continuing contributions. The rest of the editorial team and our peer-review liason officer were all new to their roles for this issue and it has been a fun, if steep, learning curve. Finally, we want to think our contributors for being an essential part of this journal. We hope that this issue is entertaining, inspiring and thought provoking for readers new and old.
