Editors’ Note
Welcome to this third issue of Under Construction @ Keele. Following from our previous
editions, we have accepted a number of paper proposals, which all demonstrate the high
quality level of postgraduate research here at Keele University. As always, the journal’s aim
is to offer a platform for Keele postgraduate students to showcase their work and we are
proud to broadcast so many different and rising voices. This journal is an expanding
enterprise and we are delighted to introduce new members to our team: Amy Jones and
Allison Huggins as Editors, Julia Coole as Publicist and Sophie Schuenemann as Peer
Review Liaison Officer. We have also appointed a new Editor-in-Chief, Kimberley Braxton,
and a new Communications Secretary, James Williamson.
The plethora of topics examined within this issue are not only original, as the authors
seek to fill gaps in current literature, but also indicate the importance and value of interdisciplinary research. This journal comprises a number of fascinating works, including a
reflective essay and a creative writing piece, which we are particularly excited to present
because they embody the innovative spirit we are hoping to promote. The reflective essay
considers the ethical and methodological issues of undertaking autoethnography, linked to
the interconnectedness of subjectivity and objectivity and appropriate academic writing style.
The creative writing piece uses individual creative expression, such as original poetry, to
comment on the change in the expression of lesbian desire in literature. Alongside these, we
