the credibility of the media industry, which functions as a public watchdog in order to serve democracy.
This function is closely attached to the reliability of media actors, which might be undermined if
falsehoods were circulated without legal liability. The legal liability assured under false privacy and false
light may incentivise the media to guarantee the truthfulness of their publications in order to maintain
their public reliability.
