In 1992, with a swiftly upward climbing career behind her, superstar-in-the-making Madonna teamed
with the magnum opus of photographers Steven Meisel. When two forces like these collide, it is
inevitable that the result is something incredible. That something was Sex.
At the time, the concept for Sex was highly controversial. So much so, that Madonna was forced to sign
a contract before embarking on the project that forbade her from depicting child pornography and
bestiality. Because, of course, the idea of a woman publicly embracing her sexuality is in an equal
playing field to these abhorrent sexual taboo’s.
