Semi-Finals Lisa Ashton continued her impressive tournament in the semi-finals. The current Lakeside Champion brought her A-game to the stage on finals day as she claimed a 6-1 victory over Fallon Sherrock. Ashton would face Anastasia Dobromyslova in the final after the talented Russian came through in relative comfort by defeating Irina Armstrong, who incidentally had enjoyed her best ever televised tournament. Final Anastasia Dobromyslova overcame World Champion Lisa Ashton 9-7 in a match that went all the way to a tie-break situation. During the early stages there was nothing to split the two players, indeed six consecutive holds of throw set the tone for the match as the players headed into the break. When they returned to the stage it was Dobromyslova who started off stronger, taking the seventh and eighth legs to open up a gap for the first time, only to find herself pegged back to 5-5 by an impressive Ashton, who went on to hold throw again in the twelfth leg, thus forcing the match into a tie-break situation. Anastasia took the the thirteenth leg to lead 7-6, only to find herself denied the title as Lisa levelled up once more at 7-7. In the fifteenth leg Dobromyslova moved in front again and this time she was able to complete the victory, landing tops in the next leg to wrap up a thrilling final that had the crowd on the edge of their seats. The Verdict As with the mens’ tournament, the BDO Ladies World Trophy was a huge success, the final in particular served to highlight the standard the the ladies game has reached over recent years. So much so that Trina Gulliver, the nine-time World Champion who is considered the greatest lady player of all time is in danger of being left behind.
