A good night’s sleep and a cigar
Having stayed in hotels on a regular basis for
virtually all of my working life, there are certain
things that I need, just to make the rather
transient experience more tolerable. I tend to go
boutique now rather than big chain as there is a
little more chance of not being woken up several
times in the night by voices and doors. I need a
certain size of room so as not to feel completely
claustrophobic and most important of all, it either
has to have a cigar lounge or be within walking
distance of one, wherever I am in the world..
I have stayed at all of the hotels in London with
lounges attached but have stumbled upon what
must be the finest cigar smokers hotel in London,
if not the world. 10 Manchester Street Hotel is
a regular haunt of mine for business meetings
and just for a smoke. The outside terrace is warm
and inviting at every time of year. I like it better
than most as on the terrace you can smoke your
own cigars rather than having to buy expensively
them from the hotel or lounge, which is the case
for most. They do have an inside lounge and an
excellent humidor too.
own, this is the ultimate luxury. For those of us
that travel alone a lot, we all know how dull and
depressing hotel rooms can be however high the
cotton thread count in the duvet. This hotel means
that for someone who wants to unwind without
having to go anywhere to have a smoke, it is utter
perfection.
It is a wonderful part of being a cigar smoker in
that we get to meet some great people along the
way, but sometimes one just wants to put on his
jeans and T-shirt, order a steak and a bottle of
wine and smoke a cigar without having to move
more than a few feet. Add a film on the iPad and
you have the perfect reclusive evening. Only 10
Manchester offers that…….

his stay at the hotel.
The service is discreet and excellent and prices
for drinks and food are acceptable and it is good
quality. I have stayed at the hotel overnight a
few times and always been comfortable and well
looked after.
Here’s where the whole experience gets better
though. They have rooms with their own private
heated smoking terraces. Spacious, well heated
and literally five steps from your bed.
It is unique as far as I am concerned and to those
of us who want to indulge in a quiet cigar after a
hard day at work or even a day of leisure on one’s
