UGA is committed to replacing the coal-fired boiler at the Central Steam Plant in 2015, signifying the single largest
reduction in carbon emissions to date at UGA. A Climate Action Planning Task Force comprised of faculty, staff, students
and community partners evaluates current activities, identifies new strategies to reduce emissions and sets emission
reduction targets for the future. Other current UGA actions to reduce emissions include upgrading central utilities and
building mechanical systems to reduce energy use, enhancing campus transit and bicycle programs, updating building
construction standards to meet environmental and health goals, reducing landfilled waste, and mitigating emissions
through preserved and managed forests. Goals of the Task Force include a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2035
