Georgia Initiative for Climate & Society The Georgia Initiative for Climate & Society (GICS) is improving our understanding of the complex processes and effects of climate variability and change on natural, managed, human-built, and societal systems and developing user-inspired effective and appropriate adaptation and mitigation strategies, solutions, information and tools. During 2014, GICS faculty and students developed “Weather is your mood. Climate is your personality.” an educational poster series communicating the challenges and opportunities related to climate change in Georgia, including impacts on cities, coastal areas, agriculture, forestry, precipitation and temperature. The GICS website includes resources for educators and researchers interested in climate change including presentations by speakers from the Spring 2014 GICS seminar series. GICS members provided over six outreach presentations to the public this year on climate change at various civic groups and continuing education programs and one new GICS-inspired collaborative research project received 1.5 million dollars to investigate the effects of Greenland Ice Sheet meltwater on the nearby marine ecosystem.
