Bioenergy Systems Research Institute
The Bioenergy Systems Research Institute (BSRI) unites the University’s legacies in agriculture, forestry, environmental
science and engineering with its strengths in carbohydrate science, genetics and microbiology to provide a scientific and
practical foundation to support an economic and sustainable bioenergy future. BSRI encourages and facilitates:
(a) integrative, collaborative basic and applied research projects in bioenergy that recognize the entire lifecycle and
environmental impact of biomass production, harvesting, transport, treatment, conversion, and recycling; (b) education
and training of the next generation of scientists and engineers that will form the 21st century workforce in the
alternative energy field; and (c) outreach and communication activities to involve our public and private stakeholders in
the development and dissemination of next-generation bioenergy technologies. BSRI members published 133
Refereed Journal Articles in FY14 addressing issues in sustainability with topics ranging from carbon dioxide emissions
