Center for Integrative Conservation Research
The Center for Integrative Conservation Research (CICR) responds to one of the key challenges facing conservation today:
identifying conservation practices and policies that simultaneously preserve biodiversity and serve human needs.
CICR utilizes insights and methodologies from across the social and ecological sciences to emphasize trade-offs that are
associated with managing complex systems and environmental challenges. The Center’s work is used to engage with
policy and practitioner communities to support effective and equitable solutions to these trade-offs.
Since its founding in 2007, over $1.4 million in grants and awards have come through the Center and its affiliate faculty.
In FY14, the Center organized events to catalyze sustainability research
collaborations and funding opportunities including a video-conference
with NSF Science, Engineering and Education
for Sustainability (SEES) Program Officers;
the Sustainability Science Symposium
and Workshop; and co-sponsored
10 high profile speakers in conservation
and sustainability research and practice.
