Research is the lifeblood of the institution. In 2013, UGA received $138,470,620 in research awards helping to enhance our understanding of natural and social systems, reduce the consumption of natural resources, mitigate the impact of human practices on natural systems, and develop new strategies for a sustainable future. Specific areas of excellence include water resources, bioenergy, sustainable agriculture, climate change, obesity, ecosystem dynamics, sustainable forest management, and much more. Over 660 faculty conduct sustainability-related research at UGA.
