What is Asian Century?
Your study
The Asian Century is a program of study designed to prepare students to
understand the processes of change occurring in Australia’s North and their
consequences.
A selection of subjects for this course includes:
Major overview
• Government & Politics in Developing Areas
The purpose of the Asian Century major is to provide a suite of subjects
that contextualise the Asian Century within the human story, prioritise
histories and cultures, and focus on common goals that confront shared
social, economic, environmental, urban, demographic and educational
issues. Through studies that are interdisciplinary in subject and
transnational in scope, the major will assist students to understand the
regional and global contexts of issues associated with the Asian Century
and where possible gain cross-cultural experiences in Asia.
Asian Century is only available as a second major. It must be studied in
combination with another Arts major.
Major highlights
The Asian Century major is designed to provide students with an
understanding of the processes of change happening in Asia and their
global consequences. It is anticipated (but at this stage not guaranteed)
that up to four subjects in the major may be offered over one semester for
students wishing to study on exchange in Singapore.
Career opportunities
Our world requires students with an understanding of Asia and an ability to
engage with it, whether they enter teaching, government employ, business
or law. The research and cultural skills developed during study will enhance
the skills and employability of Arts and Social Science graduates, providing
that extra edge in a competitive world.
