Deceased

Romanda Thompson – Deceased May 22 , 2016 as a result of a motorcycle accident in Gainesville at the age of 33 . He worked as a Painter in Graduate and Family Housing . Colleagues described him as a bright , personable person . The Department sends out their heartfelt condolence to Romanda ’ s family .

Orpha Hoover – She began her housing career in 2001 . She enjoyed her soaps , the Young and the Restless , and we are certain she still does ! Now , Orpha has time to travel back and forth to Indiana , her roots . If you ask staff on West campus , what they miss most about Orpha is her smile , her organization in the offices , and consistency .

Robert Campbell – Robert served as Maintenance Specialist Electrician for the department for 19 years , so his excellent electrical work is found in most of our buildings . If you are wondering what Robert is up to these days , he still enjoys keeping up with the numerous changes in the electrical codes , and you can find him at the Suwanee Music Festival camping out .
Don Smith- Don worked 31 years for Housing , starting out in the furniture shop and retired as a Senior Maintenance Superintendent , working on many major renovations and numerous projects . If you are looking for Don , you will find him hunting , fishing , collecting roadkill , and spending time with his grandchildren .
Clearance Lang – Clearance worked 22 years with Housing in the Springs area . He also served as Emergency Building Services on call , so he worked numerous long days and nights on campus cleaning up a variety of emergency issues . He just completed building a brand new home , so he is enjoying that new home along with his retirement and some free time .
Terry MacDonald – Terry ’ s career in housing began as an Assistant Director of Housing in the Graham in 1984 , 33 years ago . He then moved to the Main Housing office in Administrative Services , Undergrad Assignments and Conferences . With a slight change in his career , he moved on to be the Associate Director of Housing , Building Services . In retirement , you can find Terry traveling and on the golf course as a course ranger .
Darrell Mack – Darrell worked 30 years for the department as Steam pipe Fitter . His co-workers described him as a hard worker with strong work ethic . When he retired he took with him knowledge of the old steam and chill water systems . Although he is missed , we hope he is enjoying his retirement .
Paul Weinar – Paul really enjoyed taking care of the people in the office , and he was well known for his candy dish . He really enjoyed making sure that we all had what we needed , and he was always happy to help with a task . Since retiring , he has been traveling the US with his wife and spending lots of time with his sons and his grandson . “ Fulltime ” grandpa is his new favorite role . Paul worked for the department since 2013 .

Marvin Seay - Marvin had 37 years of service to the department . As a Maintenance Specialist , Marvin managed the department ’ s feet of vehicles as well as the librarian for the blue prints of all buildings . Marvin continues to work but in a new career in his auto body repair and paint shop .

Earnest Whitfield – Earnest had 33 years of service to our department . His day job was a Maintenance Mechanic in Broward Hall . Most weekends ( and usually at night ), you would run into Earnest as one of our Emergency Maintenance staff . Earnest continues to work for himself as a plasterer and picking other old maintenance-related jobs .

Brad Morgan – Brad was the Supervisor in the Cable Shop so in his tenure he experienced many changes from upgrades to the TV cable infrastructure to the world class wireless we now have . Brad moved to S . Carolina to be with his family but still owns his home in Gainesville . Brad fills his days by spending time with his grandchildren and checking on the Gainesville residence .
