“ The North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood ( NTPLLN ) is a place that brings everyone together , to study , to create , to play and to socialize . Sixth College has always felt like a place that welcomes everyone , and this new neighborhood really does that .”

STUDENT SUPPORT AND SUCCESS
In 2020 , the North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood ( NTPLLN ) became the new home for Sixth College and 2,000 undergraduate students . And with open spaces , thought-provoking art , dining and the new Craft Center , it is a buzzing social hub for the entire campus .
The center received philanthropic support from alumni like Wendy Kwok ’ 99 who established an endowment to help fund center programs and provide students with free and low-cost opportunities to participate .
NTPLLN includes the School of Arts and Humanities , the School of Social Sciences , and a new home for its department committed to civic education , the Department of Urban Studies and Planning . It also includes “ The Jeannie ,” a 600-seat auditorium , named in recognition of a gift from Arthur and Jeannie Rivkin .
“ Engaging in artistic activities is like a secret learning language . This kind of tactile creative work allows your fingers to do the thinking , so you can lose and rediscover yourself in the process .”
— Annika Nelson , manager of the UC San Diego Craft Center
The neighborhood also includes the Suraj Israni Center for Cinematic Arts , made possible through a gift from Deepak and Varsha Israni , in memory of their son , an aspiring filmmaker . The endowment gift will promote research , scholarship , teaching , production and the exhibition of film and moving image arts .
