M
y husband and I
became involved in
the Cavalier world in
1994. My husband
had grown up with German Shepherd
Dogs and I grew up with Samoyeds,
which was my brother’s beloved breed.
I worked with a friend who was a long
time breeder and performance
exhibitor of Shetland Sheepdogs. My
husband and I decided we wanted a
breed that would fit our lifestyle and
that was similar in temperament to the
Samoyeds that I had grown up with
and the Bernese Mountain Dogs that
my husband was attracted to. We
studied various toy breeds and with
the help of my work place friend who
did temperament testing and
performance training, we decided that
the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was
the right breed for our life style. We
attended a local AKC A/OA Match in
Marin County where we met Cindy
Huggins (Courtlore) and Joanne Nash
(Rambler). Cindy had Ch. Partridge
Wood Laughing Misdemeanor with her
and a lovely young tri boy, Lothlorien
Graham. Cindy was showing her
beautiful ruby Demi so we were
fortunate as Cindy offered us the
opportunity to have Lothlorien
Graham join our family. He came from
excellent lines that go back on
Kindrum and Amantra and was a
wonderful example of the breed. In
fact, Graham remained heart clear
until 12 years old and passed away at
16 ½ years and not from heart. We
decided to show Graham at the
Cavaliers of the West as Cavaliers of
the West Show Rules allow the
showing of neutered dogs and he won
Special Limit Tricolor under noted
breeder Sylvia Lymer, Lymrey
Cavaliers (UK). And so began our
journey of showing and breeding. We
both enjoy competition. I had played
in tennis tournaments as a teenager
and had participated in the equestrian
world of dressage. Showing dogs
evolved as a hobby, sport and art that
we could enjoy together. We consider
ourselves lucky to have found
someone as knowledgeable in the
breed as Cindy a well as wonderful as
Cavalier as Graham.
