Dr. Bruce Rusk
Dr. Rusk's main area of research and teaching is the cultural history of China, with focus on the Ming (1368-1644) through the early Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. He has worked on the history of textual studies, literary culture, writing systems and connoisseurship. His current research concerns practices of authentication surrounding material culture. Dr. Rusk is currently teaching Writing and Culture in East Asia (ASIA 300) and Asian Classics (ASIA 490A) and will be teaching Confucianism in China, Beyond: Reinventions of Tradition (ASIA 332) and Advanced Reading in Classical Chinese (ASIA 512B) in the spring.
Dr. Rea specializes in modern Chinese literature, cinema, and culture. His current projects deal with modern Chinese literature and drama since the late 19th century. His interests also include Late Qing (1895-1911) and Republican era (1912-1949) print culture, cinema, cartoons, manhua, visual culture, translations, as well as theories and cultures of comedy and laughter. His work also focuses on the authors Qian Zhongshu and Yang Jiang. He is currently teaching Modern Chinese Fiction in Translation II (ASIA 361), and will be teaching Chinese Cinema (ASIA 355) and Modern Chinese Authors in Translation (ASIA 451) in the spring.
