3.3 Electric Actuators
The structure of an electric
actuator is simple compared to
that of hydraulic and pneumatic
actuators, as it is onlyrequire
electrical power as a power
source. Because electrical cables
are used to transmit electricity
and signals, it is highly versatile
and there are virtually no
restrictions on the distance
between the power source and
actuator. The electric piston can
be driven by a current, so for its
operation, it will only be necessary
to use a simple relay. In case it is
decided to feed it with cc, the
current must be of the same value
and can be activated by a
transistor output of a PLC.
3.4 Engine selection
According to environmental
conditions:
Manufacturers set limits where engine
operation is no longer optimal in high
or low temperature conditions.
Be informed if the manufacturer has
performed corrosion tests, as some
machines deteriorate when exposed
to salt mist or other environmental
conditions.
Protection index needs the engine
Read the degree of protection of your
materials against dust or fiber ingress,
accidental contact and liquid
penetration. The most common
certificates in electric motors are IP21,
IP22 and IP55, although everything
will depend on the type of application.
Engine layout
Know the relationship between the
motor shaft and the gearbox output
shaft. Positions can be of three types:
Horizontal Position, Special
Application, and Vertical Position.
